The Boston Red Sox have a crucial four games ahead of them, which they need to win at least one to make sure they can lock themselves into the playoffs. However, it seems for the final series against the Tigers, the Sox are wheeling out some interesting names as starting pitchers.
According to MassLive’s Chris Cotillo, the Sox are rolling out Kyle Harrison, Connelly Early, and a TBD pitcher for the homestand against the Tigers.

“Interestingly, Red Sox list Harrison, Early and TBD as starters for this weekend against Detroit. If it matters, Game 162 would be Giolito. But there’s no way he’ll pitch if nothing is on the line,” Cotillo wrote.
Harrison did well in his two appearances with the Sox so far, going nine innings over two games, and only giving up one run while getting seven Ks. He’s lowered his ERA from 4.56 to 3.58, and seems to be thriving with the Sox. Early has done well too, posting a 1.88 ERA over 14 innings pitched with 22 Ks.

While it doesn’t seem like a head-scratcher to roll out these two, they’re facing the Tigers. The Tigers, whose backs are against the Wall after blowing a 15-game AL Central lead, and are now fighting for their own spot in the playoffs.
Neither Harrison nor Early have faced an opponent as good as the Tigers, or one with as much to lose. Hopefully they rise to the challenge, and are able to make sure Boston is heading to October baseball.
