In a recent interview, Travis Kelce gushed about his mother’s best qualities, many of which, he said, she shares with Taylor Swift. Kelce and Swift have been dating since 2023, and in this time, he said he has noticed similarities between her and his mother, Donna. He shared the ways in which they seemed similar to him.

Travis Kelce said Taylor Swift shared qualities with his mother

In the past, Kelce said that his ideal romantic partner would share some qualities with his mother. He believes that Swift does just that. He said they have a lot in common.

“Their kindness, their genuineness, their ability to say hello to everyone in the room,” he told GQ in 2025. “Their ability to show love and support no matter what. And on top of that, their work ethic. I saw my mother reach goals that she had set for herself, go from being a teller to working all the way up in the KeyBank building.”

Kelce praised his mother’s work ethic throughout the interview and said Swift demonstrated the same determination.

“I’ve seen Taylor do the exact same thing of setting goals for herself and exceeding the expectations and really captivating the world in that regard.”

He noted that Swift’s Eras Tour was the perfect example of her drive for excellence. He believed it was physically harder than his career in the NFL.

Donna Kelce responded to her son’s praise

Kelce heaped glowing praise onto his mother during the GQ interview. When asked, she spoke about what she was like as a mother. Though she likely appreciated his compliments, she didn’t think she was all that different from the average mother.

“You know, I think I’m relatable to a lot of moms that are out there,” she told People. “I mean, we’re doing everything. We’re cooking, we’re cleaning, we’re driving our kids places. It just seems like we’re running all around. We try to get help from the people that are at home, and sometimes we do and sometimes we don’t because they’re busy running out and doing their own thing, too.”

She believes that her sons picked up on the effort she put into making a good life for them.

“As a working mom, they see their mothers busy and working both at home and in the workplace — and so I think they saw that,” she said. “They had to have seen it when they were growing up.”

While Kelce has noticed similarities between his girlfriend and his mother, Donna has been looking at the way her son and Swift fit together. She believes that they have some of their best traits in common.

“They’re both friendly [and] they’re both generous,” she said on iHeartRadio’s Martha Stewart Podcast (via Us Weekly). “They’re both loving, caring individuals.”
