In the early hours of a Sunday morning, a peculiar sound interrupted the silence of a neighborhood—Che, an 80-pound Chow Chow-Labrador mix, was barking persistently. Known for being a quiet dog, Che’s unusual behavior alarmed the residents.
Thanks to Che’s warning, neighbors discovered a fire had broken out in his owner’s rowhouse. Their quick action to alert the fire department prevented the flames from spreading to nearby homes.

When firefighters arrived, they swiftly put out the fire and found Che lying unconscious on top of his owner, Andrea Bulat.
Despite the danger, Che stayed by Andrea’s side the entire time. Both required oxygen masks to regain consciousness before being taken for further treatment.
Andrea Bulat is currently in critical condition at Temple University Hospital. Che is also receiving care at an animal hospital. Initially, veterinarians were worried about potential pneumonia due to inflammation found in his chest X-rays.
Luckily, Che’s health has shown enough improvement to allow for a temporary release to one of Andrea’s friends. Everyone is hopeful that Che will soon be reunited with the owner he heroically protected.
