Apr 20, 2025; Arlington, Texas, USA; Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Kirby Yates (38) looks on during the game between the Texas Rangers and the Los Angeles Dodgers at Globe Life Field.
The Los Angeles Dodgers just completed a notable series sweep against the San Diego Padres.
Now, they are prepping for key roster members who have been absent from the team with injuries set to return just in time to wrap up the season, all confirmed through Dodgers manager Dave Roberts.
Firstly, the Dodgers $72M reliever Tanner Scott threw a simulated inning at Dodger Stadium on Friday ahead of the series opener against the Padres and was topping out at 97 mph on his fastball. Scott has been on the injured list since July 22 after suffering inflammation in his left elbow.
The 31-year-old southpaw will head down to pitch with the Dodgers’ Triple-A affiliate, Oklahoma City Comets, next Tuesday.
Along with him, right-hander Kirby Yates will also join Scott in making a rehab start for the Comets on Tuesday, as Yates threw a simulated inning of his own on Saturday.
Yates has been on the injured list since the beginning of August after suffering from lower back pain. This is his second IL stint of 2025.
Michael Kopech, who has been recovering from meniscus surgery, has already had a jump start in starting his rehab process, as he has one rehab appearance down when he pitched last Thursday for OKC. It was a rocky appearance for the flamethrower, but it was also the same day that Roki Sasaki threw his first rehab assignment, and the two made back-to-back appearances.
Kopech was originally placed on the 60-day IL, so the earliest that he can return to the team is on August 27.
Just before the Dodgers were set to take the field on Sunday afternoon, Hyeseong Kim and Kiké Hernandez made a huge step in their rehab process, participating in batting practice during pregame warmups.
Kim has been on the IL since July 29 with left shoulder bursitis, along with Hernandez, who has been on the IL since July 7 with left elbow inflammation, are set to make rehab appearances for OKC next week.
