49ers’ Robbie Chosen throws a surprise twist into WR depth chart originally appeared on The Sporting News
When the San Francisco 49ers signed Robbie Chosen earlier this summer, it seemed a move made as a dart throw that probably wouldn’t stick.

Their wide receiver room has been dinged up and uncertain. Why not at least bring in the speedster formerly known as Robbie Anderson?
Turns out, Chosen might have a little juice left in the tank.
He caught five passes for 92 yards on Saturday night in the 49ers’ second preseason game.

Of course, the fact that it all came in the latter stages of the game isn’t a great sign for Chosen’s spot on the depth chart.
But all a guy like Chosen can do in a bid for a surprise roster spot is produce when he’s on the field. It’s not inherently his fault that San Francisco opted to play him in the second half rather than the first.

It’ll be telling to see what the 49ers do with Chosen from her. Does he get more reps with the higher-ranking offensive players?
He’s certainly at least forcing a bit of a decision.
Chosen (then Anderson) debuted with the New York Jets in 2016. He has played nine seasons in the NFL, also including time with the Panthers, Cardinals and Dolphins.

He spent the past two seasons with Miami. He played nine games (four catches) in 2023 and just two games in 2024 with a single catch for five yards.

In his career, Chosen has played 122 games, caught 380 passes, totaled 5,087 yards and received 30 touchdowns.
Chosen is 32 years old now, so his NFL days aren’t going to last forever. But he’s putting some good film out there, whether the 49ers or another team consider it worth pursuing further.
