“[T]hey took the puppy and only left us the old man …”

When Scott Newton went to clean out a rental property after an eviction, he found trash, furniture, knick-knacks — and a dog named Fred. The family had left Fred behind, and the poor senior pup was so confused.

“They left you, buddy,” Newton said to Fred in a video on TikTok. “Sorry, you’re gonna have to come with us.”

Fred seemed reluctant to leave, still not understanding what was going on. One minute he’d had a family, and the next he was all alone. Newton offered him tons of love and pets, hoping to ease his pain, but Fred still seemed set on staying in the house and waiting for his family to come back for him.

“[T]hey took the puppy and only left us the old man …” Newton said.

At one point, Fred moved into the bedroom and lay down quietly. He seemed so sad. Finally, Newton was able to get the pup outside, but poor Fred was still so reluctant to leave. He already missed his family — but little did he know, his new life was about to begin.

Newton took Fred home and immediately got him all settled in. The plan was to find him a new permanent family, but the longer Fred was with Newton and his family, the more it seemed like he was there to stay.

“He got left behind, but he’s already found a new home in my son’s room,” Newton said.

Newton took Fred shopping for toys and treats, and Fred stayed by his side the whole time, afraid he might get left behind again. Newton just kept reassuring him as best he could. Back home, Newton’s kids doted on Fred, quickly falling in love.

As the first few days of having Fred came to an end, it was clear he was happier than he’d ever been — and that this was officially his new home.

Fred is currently thriving with his new family. He went from being heartbroken to being so, so loved, and there couldn’t have been a happier ending.
