The Philadelphia Phillies are always looking to add talent, whether through free agency or at the trade deadline. Over the last few years, the team’s major success has largely been due to their ability to continuously improve their roster. This offseason, the biggest concern for the Phillies is trying to lure Kyle Schwarber back.
“While Teoscar Hernandez of Los Angeles is mentioned, it seems likely that Schwarber should blow past that $66 million deal he signed. At 32 years old, approaching $100 million for his next deal should likely be closer to the correct number,” SI’s Nick Ziegler wrote.
The Phillies currently hold first place in the NL East, a comfortable position as the Mets continue to struggle and the rest of the division trails behind. However, Philadelphia is on a skid.
“However, Philadelphia lost the final two games of their series against the Cincinnati Reds, and then dropped the series opener to the Washington Nationals. Losing games to the Nationals at this point in the season isn’t ideal, and the offense is going to have to wake up for the Phillies,” Ziegler added.
Looking ahead to the offseason, the Phillies could add a two-time World Series champion to their roster.
“Bregman, who is making $40 million this year and signed for two more years at that rate, will likely opt out of his contract and seek a longer-term deal. He missed time this season with a quad injury but has hit .299/.379/.542 in 327 plate appearances. It appears Boston would be his first choice in free agency, but he is an obvious fit with several other contending teams including the Phillies,” The Athletic’s Jim Bowden wrote.

This move would certainly bolster their lineup, but it could also mean Alec Bohm might have to take a step back. Bregman is a reliable veteran and one of the best at his position. With the Phillies always looking to add, if they can secure both Bregman and Schwarber in the offseason, a World Series trophy could be just around the corner.
