The Boston Red Sox have been having a great season, posting a 65-55 record and a solid spot in the Wild Card race. However, their pitching has been their kryptonite, as they have been hot and cold all season.

With the trade deadline now passed, the Sox don’t really have many options to help fix that. However, one option might be crazy enough to work. According to Fansided’s Zachary Rotman, the Sox should bring up Payton Tolle, their top pitching prospect.

“Tolle might not have generated many headlines outside of Boston ahead of the season, but his stock has soared rapidly to the point where he’s now the No. 28 overall prospect on MLB Pipeline’s updated top-100 list,” Rotman wrote. “The 22-year-old southpaw began the season in High-A but has worked his way up to Triple-A and has a 3.31 ERA with 119 strikeouts in 18 appearances and 81.2 innings overall. Oh yeah, and this season is his first taste of pro ball. He’s been nothing short of dominant.”

Tolle would definitely be a major help to either the bullpen, or even the starting pitching. Making Tolle a starter would probably be the right move, as the back end of the rotation needs some help, and he could do that.

Tolle did start the year in High-A, so promoting him to the majors might be a little far-fetched. However, like Rotman said, he’s been dominant, and dominance is what the Sox need in this final stretch.
