Kansas City Chiefs fans won’t be surprised by which team is willing to give former KC running back Deneric Prince another shot. After spending time in the UFL, the back has earned a workout with the New Orleans Saints. While the back is technically a Super Bowl champion, his contributions were as a member of the team’s practice squad in the 2023 season. After being released by the Chiefs, Prince spent time with the Miami Dolphins before making the jump to the UFL.
Prince made the most of his opportunity and now will have a shot to return the league. For the Chiefs, it isn’t a shock that it is the Saints giving one of their former players a shot. Despite the franchise continuing to be irrelevant since Drew Brees’ exit, the team has consistently found itself attempting to borrow the greatness of Kansas City. This has obviously failed with the Saints unable to make any headway in a very winnable NFC South.
The Saints Continue to Steal Former Kansas City Chiefs

Just in case you doubt this trend, in the last handful of seasons, the Saints have added Ugo Amadi, Tyrann Mathieu, Willie Gay, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Khalen Saunders, Clyde Edwards-Helaire, and star safety Justin Reid. It’s as if the Saints believe that if they add enough former Chiefs, it will help propel a failing franchise to turn the corner.
While this is great for the careers of key former players, it is an amusing continuation that is yet to work. The Saints would be wise to fully embrace a rebuild and look to shed veteran contracts in favor of building towards the future. However, this seems unlikely with how the team has managed the 2025 offseason thus far.
With this in mind, Price earning a second chance is a fun story for both sides. It gives the back a chance to once again claim a job at the next level, even if it is for a floundering franchise. For the Chiefs, there isn’t room to bring them back in, making this move far easier to accept than the Saints’ other recent additions.
Prince will have an uphill battle to earn a contract with another former Chief in Edwards-Helaire, having the inside track to win the final roster spot at the position. However, it is still an interesting story to keep an eye on as the Chiefs continue what has been a boring 2025 offseason.
