Throughout the course of the 2025 NFL offseason, the San Francisco 49ers and star quarterback Brock Purdy have been one of the biggest storylines in the league. Purdy is looking for a new contract. He is also worthy of a new contract. However, the two sides have been having issues coming to a mutual understanding about how much he deserves to get paid.
While the talks have not been going smoothly so far and fans have been buzzing about Purdy potentially leaving the 49ers, it still seems more likely than not that the two sides will be able to work something out at some point. A new update has been revealed about where things currently stand between San Francisco and Purdy. “Are they within the realm of, hey, if they agree to something right now, it could get done quickly? Yeah, but they’re not there just yet,” Pelissero said. “I would anticipate it’s going to come to a head sometime before the start of training camp, potentially sooner than that. I do anticipate that it’s going to be somewhere in the [$50-million-dollar range].”
Purdy has been looking to get paid somewhere close to what Dak Prescott got with the Dallas Cowboys. That contract was worth $240 million over five years. Pelissero continued forward, offering more reason for optimism that the 49ers will work something out with their franchise quarterback.
“(Purdy), I believe, is going to get paid. I do believe that this gets done,” he said. “In terms of the exact timing, we’ll see, but I would think, for all parties involved, resolving this before training camp and not having that hanging over everybody’s heads would probably be a benefit.”
Seeing a deal get done would be music to the ears of San Francisco fans everywhere. Thinking about losing a franchise quarterback is always a stressful situation. Last season, Purdy had a down year. It was a tough season for him, but the entire 49ers’ roster struggled to get anything going. Purdy completed 65.9 percent of his pass attempts for 3,864 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions in 15 games. Back in 2023, he racked up 4,280 passing yards, 31 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions, while completing 69.4 percent of his passes.
