Ranking 2025 NFL rookie impact for non-Round 1 draft picks | ESPN
Brashard Smith, RB, Kansas City Chiefs (No. 228): There were several late-round running backs I could have chosen here, as the exceptional depth of the class pushed many of them down the board. Smith switched from wide receiver at Miami to running back at SMU, which speaks to his unique versatility that should lead to schemed touches for him in Kansas City. Smith is great after the catch and shows fantastic lateral agility and straight-line speed.
Post-NFL Draft 2025 outlook for all 32 teams heading into the summer | The Athletic
Kansas City Chiefs
There’s a reason Kansas City has ranked among the best teams in the NFL for the last decade. Its front office excels at fortifying the roster through the draft. The Chiefs came away from this one having met one of their biggest long-term needs, acquired offensive reinforcements and replenished an already dominant defense. We’ll see how quickly all of these draft picks work their way into either starting jobs or a rotation. But on paper, the Chiefs found some players who will assist in their rebound from the Super Bowl LIX defeat. — Mike Jones

6. The Kansas City Chiefs Signing OT Jaylon Moore
If you watched Patrick Mahomes take a beating in Super Bowl LIX, then you had to know the offensive line would be a priority in the offseason. But a sense of urgency can lead even the best NFL general managers to make questionable decisions—like handing $15 million a season to a tackle who has made all of 12 starts over four seasons.
For his part, while speaking to reporters, Chiefs general manager Brett Veach said that he thinks Jaylon Moore will be an asset on the offensive line in Kansas City.
“We want to get some stability there at the left tackle position. He {Moore} is a guy that, I think, the only downside was just the lack of starts during his career. Now, when you consider the fact that he played behind a first ballot Hall of Fame player in Trent Williams, you can see why,” Veach said. He’s athletic. He’s a smart kid. We did a lot of work on him during the pre-draft process years ago, always had a liking, taking liking to the kid, thought he had a game that translates and credit to him that when he had a chance to go out there and log six, seven starts last year, he did a really good job.”
However, ESPN’s Seth Walder isn’t so sure.
“There are spots in roster-building where taking risks makes sense,” he wrote. “Patrick Mahomes’ left tackle is not one of them. Moore is somewhat of an unknown, but what we do know isn’t pretty. His 83% career pass block win rate would have ranked 63rd out of 67 tackle qualifiers last season.”
Even the Chiefs appear to have their doubts—Kansas City used their first pick in this year’s draft on another tackle in Ohio State’s Josh Simmons.

23. Kansas City Chiefs: T Doug Free, Northern Illinois (Round 4, Pick 122)
Original pick: WR Dwayne Bowe, LSU
Former fourth-round pick Doug Free became a solid player for the Cowboys, starting multiple seasons at left tackle and right tackle. His best work came in 2010, when he led the NFL with a 91.4 PFF run-blocking grade. Free went on to start for the Cowboys through the 2016 season before retiring due to injuries.

2025 NFL schedule release: Super Bowl champion Eagles to kick off season vs. Cowboys on Sept. 4 | NFL.com
After sweeping the Dallas Cowboys on their way to a division title and eventual triumph in Super Bowl LIX, the Philadelphia Eagles are hosting their bitter rivals on the same night they raise their second banner.
Philadelphia will open the 2025 NFL season against Dallas on Thursday, Sept. 4 in the NFL Kickoff Game.
It’s the latest chapter in a longstanding conflict between the two NFC clubs, and perhaps one of the more interesting tests of a rivalry. The Eagles enter the new season in the afterglow of a dominant Super Bowl performance, but with a number of new faces replacing those who cashed in on the playoff success and signed elsewhere in 2025. They’re the kings of the NFL world at the moment, while Dallas has quietly put together an offseason that should position them to contend in 2025, a goal they’ll only meet by proving themselves against the best.
Trey Hendrickson says Bengals have cut off contract talks | ESPN
In a statement to ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Monday, Hendrickson said “no communication has taken place between my camp and the organization” following the NFL draft in April.
Hendrickson also said the offers presented by the Bengals “did not reflect the vision we shared and were promised” if he continued to play at a high level. According to Hendrickson, discussions toward a new deal have stalled out.
“Rather than using collaboration to get us to a point to bring me home to the team, THEY are no longer communicating. I have been eagerly awaiting a resolution of this situation, but that’s hard to do when there is no discussion and an evident lack of interest in reaching mutual goals,” Hendrickson said in the statement.

3 reasons the Chiefs’ Super Bowl window is still wide open – Arrowhead Pride
1. The Chiefs finally drafted a left tackle.
This isn’t even just about this year— this is about the next five years. If this pick hits, then the best quarterback in the history of the NFL will finally have his blind side protected. If you can keep Patrick Mahomes upright, he will find a way to win you many football games.
This was the Chiefs’ biggest weakness, and they fixed it in spades.
2. The Chiefs’ wide receiver room in ‘Rolling in the Deep’
Move over, Adele, because the Chiefs’ wide receiver room is “Rolling in the Deep.”
Early last season, Jalen Royals dominated college football to the point that some analysts wondered if he could play his way into the back of Round 1 in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Then, he hurt his foot, which caused him to fall down draft boards.
I mention this because Royals is going to start the year fifth on the wide receiver depth chart for Kansas City, behind Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy, Hollywood Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster.
The 2025 wide receiver group can be the deepest in Chiefs’ history.
