Any good Swiftie knows the crucial Taylor Swift Met Gala lore. But will she make Met Gala 2025 her seventh appearance at the Costume Institute celebration? Could Swift bring Travis Kelce as her date to fashion’s big night out? Anything’s possible at this point.
As the first Monday in May approaches, the question is heavy on fan’s minds, especially since Swift and Kelce have been keeping things relatively low-profile the past few months: Will Taylor Swift attend Met Gala 2025?
Below, explore Swift’s Met Gala history and why fans think this year could mark her return to the storied event after a long absence. There’s no confirmation, but here’s why fans think she might go in 2025 with Kelce.
Taylor Swift’s layered history with the Met Gala
The Met Gala plays an important part in the mythology (and eras) of Taylor Swift. Who can forget the 2016 Bleachella era where Swift rocked a bleach-blonde shag chop and Louis Vuitton cutout dress, danced with Tom Hiddleston, and perhaps first caught sight of future ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn? A packed night, to be sure.

The Tom Hiddleston tryst is immortalized (at least among fan speculation) in fan-favorite reputation track “Getaway Car,” while another rep song “Dress” alludes to when she first met Alwyn: “Flashback when you met me/Your buzzcut and my hair bleached.” (Alwyn had buzzed hair at the 2016 Met Gala). Much to unpack!

What to expect from Met Gala 2025
This year’s Met Gala will be held on Monday, May 5, and the theme for the exhibit is Superfine: Tailoring Black Style — drawing from Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book, Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity. The Costume Institute exhibit that the event celebrates focuses on the “style of Black men in the context of dandyism, from the 18th century through present.”
This year’s co-chairs are Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, and Anna Wintour, and honorary chair LeBron James. Other confirmed guests are Simone Biles, Dapper Dan, Doechii, Ayo Edebiri, Edward Enninful, Janelle Monáe, Angel Reese, Sha’Carri Richardson, Olivier Rousteing, and Tyla.
What should Taylor Swift wear to Met Gala 2025, if she went?
Teen Vogue associate editor Aiyana Ishmael has some thoughts on outfit ideas for Swift. “It would be iconic if she brought back the bleached bob, and an actually good tailored Zendaya-type suit,” Ishmael says, referencing the dress code, which is “tailored for you.” (Pun potentially attended.) Think Christopher John Rogers or Versace, Ishmael says.
Is Taylor Swift likely to attend the Met Gala? Is Travis Kelce?
Truthfully, nobody knows for sure. The pair have recently been (allegedly) spotted in Boca Raton, Florida, likely enjoying some time to themselves after the chaos and travel of the Eras Tour and the Super Bowl. Maybe they’re enjoying living somewhat normally, and not eager to be thrust back into public life. Then again, he lets her bejeweled! But she hasn’t yet been seen in New York recently.
Notably, Met Gala honorary chair LeBron James and Travis Kelce are friendly (Ohioans stick together); James was a guest on his and Jason Kelce’s New Heights podcast just a few months ago. “I’ve always wanted to ask him just everything that’s on my mind,” Travis Kelce, clearly a huge fan, said on the podcast. Also the Deuxmoi rumor is that Joe Burrow is going, so Kelce wouldn’t be the only football player in attendance.
What fans are saying online
Fans are in their manifesting era, since Swift’s schedule seems clear without the Eras Tour or an active album promotion cycle. She could also just be enjoying some needed time off.
Some are also in their delusional era — it would be extremely weird for Taylor Swift to announce reputation (Taylor’s Version) at this particular Met Gala, given the theme’s focus on highlighting Black fashion, and the centering of Black celebrities as co-chairs. Feels like she has to know that’d be a bad call to draw extra attention to herself and her re-recordings. Fans probably need to chill.
In conclusion, it’s anyone’s guess whether a Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Met Gala appearance is possible this year. But hey, maybe we’ll join fans in the manifesting.
