It’s not often that an NFL cheerleader becomes more recognizable than some of the players, but that’s exactly what happened with former San Francisco 49s dancer Teri Hatcher.

While Hatcher is now well-known as a TV and movie star, her career actually began by cheerleading for the 49ers, an endeavour that eventually saw her bag her very own Super Bowl ring. While many cheerleaders have since found fame after the field, Hatcher is perhaps the most notable.

Born in California in 1964, Hatcher went from studying acting to earning a spot on the 49ers cheer roster in the 1980s. Since then, she has become a household name and boasts a fortune estimated at $50 million, as per Celebrity Net Worth, making her the world’s richest cheerleader.

Breaking into Hollywood in the late 1980s, Hatcher would go on to star in television staples such as The Love Boat and Star Trek. She even acted opposite Sylvester Stallone in the 1989 hit comedy Tango and Cash. However, it was her performance on an episode of the cult comedy show Seinfeld that really sent her career to new levels.

Bagging the role of Lois Lane in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman in 1993 changed her life. Her stint on the much-loved show then earned a shot at starring opposite Pierce Brosnan in the Bond movie Tomorrow Never Dies in 1997.

Hatcher beat Monica Bellucci to the part of Paris Carver in the iconic film. She was then voted the world’s sexiest woman by readers of the men’s magazine FHM in the spring of the same year.

However, being a Bond girl was not even the highlight of Hatcher’s storied career. She went on to play Susan Mayer on the ABC series Desperate Housewives from 2004 to 2012. It was a part for which she won a Golden Globe, a SAG (Screen Actors Guild) award, and was Emmy nominated.

In what could be one of her most treasured possessions, though, is the Super Bowl ring that she was gifted by the 49ers owner, whom she met through the team’s former quarterback Steve Young on an episode of Lois and Clark.

San Francisco won the famous game in 1994 after beating the San Diego Chargers, yet Hatcher ended up with her own piece of history as a token of her cheerleading work with the team several years before. During an interview on The Talk in January 2024, she explained how, despite the ring looking slightly different to other rings players were awarded that year, she still wears it.

“Honestly, the only finger that it still fits on is my wedding finger, and since I’m single,” she said “I might as well be married to the NFL.”

NFL cheerleading has been rising in popularity recently, mainly thanks to the hit Netflix show America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. The show chronicles the highs and lows and everyday lifestyles of those trying out for a spot on the legendary cheerleading team.

Other cheerleaders who have gone to find success away from the game include former Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Charisma Carpenter and model Stacy Keibler

Moments after the San Francisco 49ers secured a hard-fought 34–24 victory over the New York Giants, the postgame narrative took a sudden and shocking turn. What should have been a celebration of Brock Purdy’s steady leadership quickly morphed into a storm of controversy as Giants head coach Brian Daboll furiously accused the young quarterback of using “sideline technology” to decode New York’s defensive signals. Cameras caught Daboll gesturing animatedly at officials while muttering the word “cheater,” setting social media ablaze within minutes. Reporters swarmed the tunnel, trying to piece together what had just unfolded. Purdy, walking off the field with his helmet under his arm, looked composed, unfazed by the chaos around him. But when the accusation reached him during the postgame presser, his reaction — a cold, confident smile followed by twelve quietly delivered words — would freeze the room and redefine how the league viewed the 49ers’ rising star.
