Patrick Mahomes humorously credited his “dad bod” for helping him deliver a big hit on Malik Mustapha during game.

Fellas, the next time your partner gives you a hard time about your physique, just remind them that the “dad bod” is the best build for elite, athletic performance.

Patrick Mahomes’ body shape has been a topic of discussion since he entered the NFL. During the Super Bowl LVII media junction, Mahomes joked about his dad bod and that there was a six-pack underneath the belly.

Even during the summer, Chiefs fans were concerned that their franchise quarterback may have been too relaxed during the offseason.

Maybe we were all wrong. Maybe the gut is the key to being a three-time Super Bowl champion. It definitely means you’re able to run a grown man over.

During the Chiefs’ Week 7 victory over the San Francisco 49ers, Mahomes rushed for a touchdown on fourth and goal, extending the Chiefs lead to 21-12. Not only did Mahomes rush for a TD, he buried Malik Mustapha.

Following the nasty truck, Mahomes stared down Mustapha. The play set the tone for the remainder of the second half and the Chiefs won 28-18.

During a post-game interview, Mahomes revealed he wasn’t looking for contact.

“I actually was not trying to lower my shoulder,” Mahomes shared. “I was trying to absorb the hit because I was going to be right there in the end zone. But that dad bod, man. Had enough weight on me where he went down.”

Although that was Mahomes’ highlight of the game, he overall didn’t play that well. Mahomes threw two interceptions – which made him top four in the worst passer TD/INT ratio – and his passer rating was 44.4 at the final whistle. At the end of the day, Mahomes used his legs to extend plays, pick up yards and slip past defenders to find his pass catchers.

Heading into Week 8, Mahomes has 1,389 passing yards, six TDS and eight INTS. The Chiefs will face their division rivals, the Las Vegas Raiders, on Oct. 27.
