Jan. 1: LHP Tyler Gilbert traded to White Sox in exchange for RHP Aaron Combs
The Phillies traded left-hander Tyler Gilbert to the White Sox for Minor League right-hander Aaron Combs. Gilbert was designated for assignment on Dec. 22 to make room for left-hander Jesús Luzardo on the 40-man roster.
Dec. 23: RHP Joe Ross signed to one-year deal
The Phillies signed right-hander Joe Ross to a one-year, $4 million deal to be a swingman on the 13-man pitching staff. Ross is expected to begin the season in the bullpen, but he can move into the rotation, if needed. To make room for Ross on the 40-man roster, right-hander José Cuas was designated for assignment.
