Yankees Predicted to Make Blockbuster Trade for Controversial $200 Million Superstar

The New York Yankees have already added stars Max Fried, Devin Williams, Paul Goldschmidt and Cody Bellinger. They could strike one more blockbuster trade before opening day. Fireside Yankees of Empire Sports Media suggested this trade package that would bring Carlos Correa from the Minnesota Twins to the Bronx:

Yankees receive: shortstop Carlos Correa Twins receive: infielder Georeg Lombard Jr. (No. 3 prospect), right-handed pitcher Chase Hampton (No. 6 prospect), right-handed pitcher Ian Hamilton and catcher/first baseman Rafael Flores “He is a great all-around hitter who can hit the ball to all fields while playing elite defense,” Fireside Yankees noted. “If the Yankees move him to third base, he could have an easier time staying on the field as shortstop can take a huge toll on a player’s lower half.”

Correa signed a six-year, $200 million deal in 2023. However, his deal includes vesting options for 2029-2032. Adding Correa to play third would allow Jazz Chisholm Jr. to play second base, solving the Yankees infield dilemma. At the winter meetings, president of baseball operations Derek Falvey and general manager Jeremy Zoll noted that they are not actively trying to move players like Correa, but they will listen to calls on all of their players.

“And what we tell every team is: Listen, we’re open to being creative,” said Falvey. “We can’t rule anything out before we hear it, no matter who the player is, and so we’ll just be respectful of their process and what they’re going through and try to kick some creative ideas around. It’s what led us to a Pablo trade, or something like that, at different junctures. So we have to stay open-minded to those things.” The Yankees would be parting with two of their top 10 prospects, but the player they would be getting in return is one of the best in baseball. Correa is a three-time All-Star and Platinum Glover. However, Yankees fans may have mixed opinions on Correa.

Correa was a member of the infamous 2017 Houston Astros. His involvement in the cheating scandal that helped knock the Yankees out of the postseason may make his addition controversial.
