It might be time for the New York Yankees to move on from Jasson Dominguez. He’s started the 2026 season in Triple-A, and who knows when he’ll see real MLB time with the Yankees this season. It’s even an indictment on Dominguez, really as a player, but it’s become clear a change of scenery might be the best thing for him.
In a recent mock trade idea, SI.com’s Thomas Carelli floats a trade prediction that the St. Louis Cardinals may be interested in acquiring Dominguez, and in return, New York receives catcher Ivan Herrera and Victor Scott II.

Could the Yankees Trade Jasson Dominguez to the Cardinals?
At this very moment, the St. Louis Cardinals seem like a very logical destination for Jasson Dominguez.
In the trade idea by Carelli, the Yankees acquire catcher Ivan Herrera and outfielder Victor Scott II. While New York doesn’t necessarily need another catcher, Herrera did hit .284 last season with 22 extra-base hits and 66 RBI over 102 games.
Victor Scott II, on the other hand, is a defensive first center fielder who would likely just be a depth piece for the Yankees anyway. St. Louis might be more willing to part ways with both Scott II and Herrera than the Yankees are to part ways with Dominguez.
“The Yankees will swap a high-upside prospect for two moderate needs at catcher and in the outfield. As Yankees fans grow restless about the monster contract of Trent Grisham, they would welcome a new outfielder to back him up and, just maybe, take over if Grisham is dealt. Nonetheless, the Yankees can use depth in the outfield with Scott II,” Carelli wrote.

Jasson Dominguez’s Rocky Tenure with the Yankees
It seems like the Yankees are pretty high on Jasson Dominguez, but the problem is that New York has a really crowded outfield at the moment, and with the large contracts of Code Bellinger, Aaron Judge, and Trent Grisham, there’s just no way (unless an injury transpires) that Dominguez would see playing time over any of those players.
However, the once top prospect, and now 23-year-old outfielder Dominguez, is back in the minors.
Over parts of three seasons in MLB, Dominguez has never really seen an extended run of playing time. In 2025, he appeared in 123 games and hit .257 with 1o home runs. Dominguez has yet to even take 500 MLB at-bats.
Yankees fans, what do you think about this proposed trade by SI.com to offload Jasson Dominguez for Ivan Herrera and Victor Scott II?
