BREAKING NEWS : Trent Williams faces hefty fine from NFL for punching Chiefs player

Trent Williams will have to fork over another five digits to the league office.

The NFL announced on Saturday that the San Francisco 49ers offensive lineman Williams has been fined $11,817 for punching Kansas City Chiefs safety Bryan Cook in Week 7, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. Cook has also been fined $8,442.64 for throwing the first punch at Williams.

The incident occurred late in the fourth quarter of Kansas City’s eventual 28-18 win over San Francisco (see the video here). Williams was ejected from the game on the spot, but Cook was not penalized because the refs apparently missed his instigation.

The reason why Williams’ fine ended up being larger than Cook’s fine is that fines are based on a percentage of a player’s salary. Williams, who is making $27.7 million in cash this season, has a significantly bigger salary than Cook, who is making $1.2 million cash in the third year of his rookie contract.

The 36-year-old Williams is definitely no stranger to all this though. He has been fined millions of dollars over the course of his NFL career due to his many on-field altercations (including in the playoffs).
