However, the Yankees received some good news on one of their outfielders on Tuesday. Center fielder Trent Grisham accepted his qualifying offer to return to the team in 2026, ESPN’s Jorge Castillo reported.
Grisham will be getting a one-year, $22 million deal for the 2026 season. The Yankees will have some decisions to make after the upcoming season on the 29-year-old.
Trent Grisham’s impact on the New York Yankees
The two-time Gold Glove winner was acquired by the Yankees in a December 2023 trade with the San Diego Padres. At first, New York used him as a defensive specialist in his first season with the team, but in 2025 turned into an everyday starter.

His second season with the team was extremely productive, having a .235 batting average, .348 on-base percentage, and career-highs in slugging rate (.464), OPS (.811), home runs (34), and RBI (82).
With the void at center field getting addressed, the Yankees will still need to figure out left field after Cody Bellinger declined his 2026 player option and test out free agency.
Grisham will run it back with the Yankees next season. The goal moving forward is to get over their 16-year World Series drought and capture the franchise’s first since 2009.
