The Texas Rangers are coming off a rough offensive season in which they ranked 26th in OPS (.683), 24th in hits (1,275) and 22nd in runs (684). Clearly, an offensive boost is needed if Texas wants to return to the postseason.

Rangers linked to two-time Silver Slugger outfielder Kyle Tucker, who could help fix Texas’ offensive issues

Fox Sports published an article on Wednesday that states the Texas Rangers, Cleveland Guardians and San Francisco Giants are the best fits for Chicago Cubs free-agent outfielder Kyle Tucker.

Tucker would be the perfect fit for the Rangers, who have recently spent a lot of money on free agents such as Corey Seager, Marcus Semien and Jacob deGrom. On the other hand, Dallas Morning News reporter Evan Grant believes Texas won’t spend much this offseason. If that’s the case, Rangers fans shouldn’t get their hopes up about Texas potentially adding Tucker, who ESPN projects will sign an 11-year, $418 million contract this offseason.

Still, the Rangers can and should attempt to sign Tucker this offseason. The Houston Astros dealt Tucker, who won the World Series with Houston in 2022, to the Chicago Cubs in exchange for Issac Paredes, Hayden Wesneski and Cam Smith last offseason. In his first (and likely final) season with the Cubs, Tucker made the National League All-Star Team and posted 4.6 bWAR with a .266/.377/.464 (143 OPS+) slash line, 22 home runs and 73 RBIs en route to winning his second career Silver Slugger Award.

Tucker struggled after the All-Star break, posting a .738 OPS in 41 games while playing through a right-hand fracture and missing time due to a left calf strain after posting an .883 OPS in 95 games before the break. Still, his 2025 stats ended up in a good place, and most assume his injuries impacted his second-half performance.

If the Rangers end up signing Tucker, Adolis Garcia would likely play a lot more center field. The team still will have to make room in the lineup for outfielders Wyatt Langford and Evan Carter, which shouldn’t be an issue with the designated hitter position. No matter what, if the Rangers have money to spend, they should do their best to sign Tucker, as he is only 28 and will be a future Hall-of-Famer if he continues to produce at the plate.
