San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle had his second-consecutive strong performance Sunday in the 49ers’ win over the Arizona Cardinals. The outing put Kittle in the 49ers’ histor.y books.
Kittle on Sunday grabbed six receptions for 67 yards and two touchdowns on six targets. The two touchdown catches gave him 50 for his career and put him in rarified air in 49ers history. Kittle is now one of three 49ers in history with 500 career catches and 50 career touchdown catches, joining Pro Football Hall of Famers Jerry Rice and Terrell Owens.

Rice’s reception and touchdown numbers won’t be touched. He finished his 16 years in San Francisco with 1,281 catches and 176 receiving touchdowns.
Owens’s reception mark is within reach for Kittle, though. He finished his eight years in red and gold with 592 catches, just 27 more than Kittle’s 565. With six games to go there’s a real chance Kittle surpasses Owens this season to move into second place on the 49ers’ all-time receptions list.
Given his resurgence over the last three-plus seasons, Kittle may be carving out his place in Canton. If he keeps climbing the 49ers’ all-time lists in the major receiving categories, combined with his prowess as the best blocking TE in the NFL, it’s going to get increasingly difficult to build a case against him.
