Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher/designated hitter Shohei Ohtani

Shohei Ohtani has certainly enjoyed his two seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers following his stint with the Los Angeles Angels. After missing the postseason in each of his six seasons with the Angels, Ohtani signed a 10-year, $700 million deal with the Dodgers in 2024, and has since helped lead them to back-to-back World Series titles.

Last season, it took Ohtani and the Dodgers only five games to defeat the New York Yankees in the World Series. This year, however, presented a tougher challenge as the Toronto Blue Jays pushed L.A. into a 3–2 deficit before the Dodgers rallied to win the final two games and clinch the championship in seven.

Ohtani followed up his third MVP season in 2024 with another strong campaign in 2025, recording 172 hits and 55 home runs, the third-most in MLB, while batting .282. And in 14 pitching appearances, the five-time All-Star from Japan tallied 52 strikeouts and allowed just 15 runs. But one moment from Ohtani’s season stood out the most.

In Game 4 of the NLCS between the Dodgers and the Milwaukee Brewers, Ohtani powered his team to the World Series by hitting three home runs and recording 10 strikeouts over six scoreless innings, eliminating the NL’s No. 1 seed. And on Wednesday, the MLB named Ohtani’s Game 4 performance as the 2025 Legendary Moment of the Year, which goes to the best play/performance of the season.

Ohtani beat out four other nominations for the award, including:

  • Athletics first baseman Nick Kurtz’s 4-home run game
  • Nationals center fielder Jacob Young’s circus catch
  • Ohtani’s back-to-back 50 home run seasons
  • Mariners catch Cal Raleigh’s 60 home runs

“JUST IN: Shohei Ohtani’s 3-home run, 10-strikeout NLCS Game 4 performance is the 2025 Legendary Moment of the Year đŸ”„,” the MLB wrote on X. “The Greatest Sho 😼‍💹”

Ohtani and the Dodgers will now turn their focus to the 2026 MLB season, where they hope to pull off the first World Series three-peat since the Yankees did it from 1998 to 2000.
