Marmol’s Crushing Arenado Update Shatters Cardinals’ Slim Hopes – Star Slugger’s Shoulder Saga Spells Postseason Doom.

Cardinals' Oli Marmol shares important Nolan Arenado update | Sporting News Canada

The St. Louis Cardinals were making a promising push before suffering a series sweep against the Seattle Mariners this week. They will look to bounce back in their divisional rival matchup against the MLB’s best, the Milwaukee Brewers.

Heading into the final weeks of the regular season, the NL Wild Card picture is shaking up. The Cardinals will have to find momentum once again, falling to four games behind the New York Mets for the final spot.

St. Louis is eyeing a return to third baseman Nolan Arenado, hoping to get the veteran Gold Glove back as they continue to stay relevant in the late-season push.

Nolan Arenado looking to return to major leagues on Monday

Before their series opener against the Brewers, manager Oli Marmol gave an update on Nolan Arenado. The Cardinals are hoping the third baseman will be ready by Monday.

“3B Nolan Arenado is scheduled to play the field tonight and Saturday for Double-A Springfield and then he will be evaluated to see if he’s ready to return to the St. Louis Cardinals (potentially on Monday), manager Oli Marmol said,” MLB.com‘s John Denton reported.

Arenado, 34, was suffering from an off year before sustaining a right shoulder strain that landed him on the injured list on Aug. 1. In his least productive season while a part of the Cardinals, he has a career-lows in batting average (.235), on-base percentage (.294), slugging percentage (.366), OPS (.660), and WAR (1.0) while hitting 10 home runs and 43 RBI.
