Detroit, MI – April , 2026
The Detroit Lions didn’t just evaluate talent this week — they acted on it.
After a successful tryout at the team’s Allen Park facility, the Lions have officially signed veteran wide receiver Scotty Miller, a former Tampa Bay Buccaneers Super Bowl champion, to bolster their receiving corps ahead of the 2026 season.
It’s a move that reflects intent.
Detroit entered the post-draft phase with a crowded wide receiver room, but general manager Brad Holmes made it clear the team would continue searching for upgrades. Miller’s performance during his visit was enough to earn him a roster spot — and a chance to compete immediately.
“It never stops. It’s never good enough,” Holmes recently said — and this signing proves it.
Miller brings experience and speed.
During his time in Tampa Bay, he developed into a reliable deep threat, highlighted by a 2020 season where he recorded 501 receiving yards and three touchdowns. More importantly, he was part of a championship culture, contributing during the Buccaneers’ Super Bowl run.
Since then, he’s taken a journeyman path through the league, including stints with the Atlanta Falcons and Pittsburgh Steelers. Now, he arrives in Detroit with something to prove.
This isn’t about star power.
It’s about fit.
The Lions are building an offense that thrives on precision, spacing, and explosive plays. Miller’s ability to stretch the field and create separation gives quarterback Jared Goff another weapon — one that could open up opportunities for others across the formation.
But nothing will be handed to him.
Detroit already has multiple receivers fighting for roles, including recent draft additions and returning contributors. Miller will need to earn his place through training camp and preseason reps.
Still, the opportunity is real.
For the Lions, this is a low-risk addition with situational upside.
For Miller, it’s a shot at redefining his role — not just as a depth piece, but as a contributor on a team with legitimate ambitions.
And for a franchise pushing to take the next step, even the smallest moves can carry the biggest impact.
