Sincere McCormick runs against the Buccaneers on December 08, 2024.

On Wednesday August 27, 2025, NFL insider Vic Tafur reported the San Francisco 49ers are signing former Las Vegas Raiders running back Sincere McCormick to their practice squad.

I’m told the 49ers are signing former Raiders RB Sincere McCormick to their practice squad.

McCormick, 24, was originally signed by the Raiders as an undrafted free agent out of UTSA in 2022. As a junior in 2021, McCormick rushed for 1,479 yards which was fifth-best in the entire FBS. He also rushed for over 1,400 yards his sophomore season in 2020.

McCormick had been a part of the Raiders practice squad since that initial 2022 signing. The 49ers are only his second NFL team.

McCormick received some carries for the Raiders down the stretch last season, totaling 39 carries for 183 yards. He also became a fan favorite in Las Vegas due to his tough running despite his undersized stature.

The only running back currently on San Francisco’s practice squad, McCormick essentially becomes the fifth string running back behind Christian McCaffrey, Brian Robinson Jr., Isaac Guerendo and Jordan James.

49ers Let Jeff Wilson Jr Go

Sincere McCormick is effectively replacing running back Jeff Wilson Jr., who was signed to the Miami Dolphins practice squad on Wednesday August 27, 2025.

Wilson spent two preseason games with San Francisco, scored two touchdowns and impressed 49ers Head Coach Kyle Shanahan. But it wasn’t enough to make the 49ers roster.

Niners fans will certainly be said to see Wilson go. He spent 4.5 productive seasons with San Francisco from 2018-2022 and fans made countless memories watching him play. Many of them were hopeful for Wilson to return.

But, Wilson is certainly landing on his feet. He gets to return to a Dolphins team he spent the last 2.5 seasons with and a head coach in Mike McDaniel that knows him well.

On the 49ers side, McCormick is 5 years younger than Wilson (29) so San Francisco gets a back that likely has higher potential that they can develop in a good scheme for running backs.

49ers Also Retain Three Receivers On The Practice Squad

Notably, the San Francisco 49ers practice squad also has three wide receivers: Junior Bergen, Robbie Chosen and Malik Turner.

Chosen, 32, is a former 1000 yard receiver who had a great preseason for San Francisco. He is the most likely out of that group to contribute to the 49ers on the field this season.

Bergen is an intriguing prospect for the punt and kick return ability he displayed at the University of Montana. Before the 49ers traded for WR Skyy Moore, Bergen had a great chance to be the 49ers primary returner.

But the trade and one muffed punt likely ended any shot Bergen had at making the 53-man roster. Fortunately, the 49ers get to keep his dynamic talent and develop him on their practice squad.

One notable name not on the practice squad is WR Russell Gage. But it’s good news for Gage: GM John Lynch said he will be on the 49ers 53-man roster ahead of Week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks.

The 49ers also signed NFL veteran Marquez Valdes-Scantling to bolster their wide receiver room on Wednesday.

What do you think of the initial practice squad roster, 49ers fans?
