The Red Sox may have formed a Big 3 around Garrett Crochet for their starting pitching rotation

The Red Sox may have formed a Big 3 around Garrett Crochet for their starting pitching rotation originally appeared on The Sporting News

When the Boston Red Sox traded for Garrett Crochet in December, they really didn’t put anything else around him. This annoyed fans, but it turns out they really didn’t need to.

The top three of the Sox rotation: Crochet, Brayan Bello, and Lucas Giolito, have all been pitching out of their minds for the past two months. In fact, since June 10th, the Sox’ Big 3 of pitching ranks in the American League’s top five for ERA, with Giolito at two with a 2.31 ERA, Crochet at four with a 2.41 ERA, and Bello at five with a 2.5 ERA.

While Crochet is number four for ERA since June 10th, he’s still the second-place contender for Cy Young. This season, he has a 14-5 record with a 2.38 ERA, with 207 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.064 in 166.1 innings pitched. He’s the clear ace for the Sox, and hopefully will be for a long time.

While he’s had a couple of rough years, Bello is now a rising ace for the Sox, taking the number two slot in the rotation. This season, Bello is 10-6 with a 3.07 ERA, the lowest he’s ever had. He also has 102 K’s and a WHIP of 1.222 in 135 innings pitched.

Finally, veteran Luca Giolito has finally regained his talent this year with the Sox. He’s 9-2 with a 3.47 ERA, and has 99 punchouts with a WHIP of 1.223 in 119.1 innings pitched.

Combine this with the fact the Sox have the best pitching staff in the MLB since June 8th, where they have the best overall ERA, starter ERA, and third-best reliever ERA which is the best in the AL, the Sox’ pitching is something to fear. And hopefully it continued to be feared well into the postseason.
