Dallas Cowboys player profile: No. 83 WR Jonathan Mingo
Was the acquisition of Jonathan Mingo a wise jumping on an opportunity or a panic move? The Dallas Cowboys clearly had a depth issue at wide receiver last season, struggling to find a complimentary player to pair up with CeeDee Lamb. In the category of too little too late, Dallas grabbed Mingo from the Carolina Panthers a few days after they lost starting quarterback Dak Prescott for the year.

The loss of a bona fide starter made evaluation of Mingo nearly impossible, so this offseason the team continued their search and landed on George Pickens. The lack of a chance to establish himself in the rotation and being pushed down the depth chart makes things tough to decipher for Mingo heading into 2025.

Profile
Mingo was on the club’s radar in the 2023 draft class, but was taken almost 20 picks before Dallas got on the clock again when they selected TE Luke Schoonmaker. Playing a season and a half with the developing Bryce Young was a tough sell, and playing with Cooper Rush wasn’t exactly a step up. All eyes will be on training camp this year to see if Mingo can wrestle WR3 snaps away from Jalen Tolbert.
From behind him on the depth chart, Jalen Brooks, Ryan Flournoy should all feel like Mingo’s projected snaps can be theirs, setting up more interesting battles for Oxnard.
