The Kansas City Chiefs are making some roster moves in order to sign undrafted free agents. That means some players needed to be cut.

Kansas City officially dropped two players from their roster on Saturday – waiving defensive end BJ Thompson and releasing linebacker Blake Lynch.

With 16 undrafted free agents looking to join Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and the rest of the reigning AFC champions, KC had to make necessary moves.

Thompson has been with Kansas City his whole career, being picked by the Chiefs in the fifth round of the 2023 Draft out of Stephen F. Austin.

He played one game in his rookie season – logging two tackles in 28 snaps.

But last season, Thompson suffered a seizure in training camp and went into cardiac arrest. He spent the rest of the campaign on the non-football illness list.

Lynch appeared in just a single game with Kansas City last season and was involved in 25 defensive snaps.

He’s played in 29 games across his career – including seven starts – over stints with the Minnesota Vikings and Los Angeles Chargers.

The Chiefs have reached agreements with these 16 free agents, but needed to make moves in order to keep them on the roster.

Those players are as follows: Florida wide receiver Elijhah Badger, Oklahoma State offensive tackle Dalton Cooper, Maryland safety Glendon Miller, Washington State offensive tackle Esa Pole, Pittsburgh linebacker Brandon George, Penn State defensive tackle Coziah Izzard, Southern Arkansas cornerback Melvin Smith Jr., Fresno State wide receiver Mac Dalena, USC punter Eddie Czaplicki, Texas A&M tight end Tre Watson, USC cornerback Jacobe Covington, Western Kentucky running back Elijah Young, Tennessee safety Will Brooks, Florida State defensive back Kevin Knowles II and San Jose State wide receiver Justin Lockhart.

Kansas City is looking to recover after suffering an embarrassing blowout defeat at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX.
