BREAKING: New Cowboys quarterback Joe Milton reveals first 100-word message about trade

“My family grew up a Cowboys fan. My mom always had a Cowboys shirt on. She always talked about them. Living in Texas has been a longtime dream of mine. And now I’m with them.

I’m ready to work.” – New QB Joe Milton.

Dallas Cowboys Pull Off Big Trade for New England Patriots Quarterback – Athlon Sports

FRISCO – The Dallas Cowboys openly admitted they were in the market for some quarterback depth this offseason. … and openly admitted that Joe Milton was high on the wish list.

Turns out, the feeling is mutual.

Dak Prescott is atop the depth chart and there is some faith in Will Grier as a backup, too.

But Dallas shopped for more of an insurance policy. … and the Cowboys believe they just won the trade with the New England Patriots for quarterback Joe Milton III on Thursday, who comes to town along with a seventh-round pick in exchange for a Cowboys fifth-rounder.

Upside makes for a strong argument for the Cowboys here. The 2025 quarterback class does not showcase much promise and Milton (6-5 and 250) could be a solid option for now … and maybe an explosively impact contributor if his talent is ever fully realized.

The Cowboys got their guy.

And the response from Milton?

“My family grew up a Cowboys fan,” Milton told reporter Jordan Schultz. “My mom always had a Cowboys shirt on. She always talked about them. Living in Texas has been a longtime dream of mine.

“And now I’m with them. I’m ready to work.”

Milton may not have been a heralded prospect coming out of the college ranks. But flashes from the 2024 preseason and last year’s 241-yard one-touchdown outing while QB’ing the Pats against the Buffalo Bills have some dreaming about his potential.

He’s a cheap backup, for now. And he’s got to beat out Will Grier to ever play … if for some reason Dak Prescott is unavailable.

And given Dak’s injury history?

That’s a consideration here.

Is Milton better than Trey Lance, Dallas’ previous “experimental trade QB”? There’s no way of knowing that. What we do know is that Dallas is happy with the deal.

And that Joe’s family is happy as well.
