CONGRATULATION! Chris Sale wins first Gold Glove Award as part of stellar 2024 season

Matt Olson and Griffin Canning came up short in their bids

This Awards season continues to be good to LHP Chris Sale, as the star pitcher for the Atlanta Braves continues to receive recognition for an incredible season on the field in 2024. This time, Sale has won his most prestigious award of the offseason yet, as he was named the NL’s Gold Glove Award winner at the pitcher position for 2024.

Chris Sale finished the season with no errors committed in the field and a DRS of 4, which was tied for third among qualified starting pitchers in the National League in 2024. Sale finished in the top 20 when it came to putouts on the season (9) and was tied for fifth for the most assists with 22 on the season.

While Sale is likely a shoo-in to win the NL Cy Young Award later on this offseason, this is a bit of a surprise since you could definitely make the argument that Zack Wheeler and Luis Severino both had just as good of defensive seasons that Sale did — if not better. With that being said, the only opinion that matters is that of the voters and the voters saw fit to give Sale his first-career Gold Glove award and the 20th overall for Braves pitchers — which is a Major League record, by the way.

1B Matt Olson was a finalist at his position and is still in search of his third Gold Glove Award, though he did win the Fielding Bible Award for first base earlier this offseason. RHP Griffin Canning, who was traded to the Braves from the Angels earlier on this offseason, was a Gold Glove finalist in the American League and he’s still looking for his second Gold Glove after winning one in 2020.

Here are the Gold Glove Award winners at each position in each league:
