Is the sky falling for the Boston Red Sox? After Sunday’s 8-6 loss to the San Diego Padres, the Red Sox are 2-7 to start the 2026 season, which is good for last place in the AL East.
Boston comes into the 2026 campaign with high expectations, and many analysts/insiders picked the Red Sox to finish atop the division. However, it’s been a rough week and a half.

MLB World Gives Strong Reactions to Red Sox Slow Start
Around the social media landscape, there have been some strong reactions to the Red Sox slow start.
Here are some of the best:
@timel0rdd: i hate john henry. i hate craig breslow. i hate the red sox. i hate baseball.
The Roman Anthony decisions have been a bit awkward, and the Red Sox offseason additions haven’t produced like the Red Sox would have hoped, but it’s still just a week into the MLB season, and there’s still 153 games left in the season.
During the series finale on Sunday, you could faintly hear ‘sell the team’ chants.
@GioJRivera: “Sell the team” chants were way over due, nevertheless couldn’t be prouder of Red Sox fans participating in the message to ownership. FSG, you asked for it.
@Evenflow226: “Red Sox might be 2-7, but they lead the league in financial flexibility.”
@RunMoseRun: “If you love the Red Sox STOP going to games!!! Nothing will change until FSG is gone.”
What’s Next for Red Sox?
Again, it’s just nine games into the season, but I’m curious about Red Sox fans’ thoughts on the slow start.
Does the team need to make an addition via trade or signing? How dependable is Roman Anthony in the outfield? When will Caleb Durbin get going?
All questions that many fans are thinking, and the front office may need to discuss.
Alex Cora has had his hands full to start the long campaign, but he’s still a great MLB manager, and as mentioned, there are still 150+ games left in the season.
