Dodgers Face 60-Day IL Dilemma: Who Will Make Room on the Roster Next Week?

The Los Angeles Dodgers have a complete 40-man roster heading into spring training, but that will change soon as some players can be moved to the 60-day injured list next week.

There’s no confirmation as to who will be placed on the 60-day IL, but Dodgers Nation compiled a list of potential candidates.

Who Could the Dodgers Put on the 60-Day IL to Clear Roster Space Next Week?

Gavin Stone

Starting pitcher Gavin Stone underwent right shoulder surgery on Oct. 9 and is likely to miss all of the 2025 season. The right-hander had a phenomenal rookie season in L.A., producing a 3.53 ERA with an 11-5 record, 116 strikeouts, and a 1.21 WHIP in 25 starts.

Stone was quite the workhorse for the Dodgers, leading the team in innings pitched with 140.1. He was one of the few starting pitchers to remain healthy throughout the season. That is until September, when Stone landed on the injured list with shoulder inflammation.

River Ryan

In August, it was announced River Ryan would undergo Tommy John surgery. The news effectively ruled out Ryan for the 2025 season as well. Ryan showed a promising start with the Dodgers, going 1-0 with a 1.33 ERA in four major league starts.

Ryan became the fourth Dodgers pitcher who had missed time in 2024 while recovering from Tommy John. Emmet Sheehan, Tony Gonsolin, and Walker Buehler were the others.

Kyle Hurt

Dodgers Nation first announced Kyle Hurt would undergo Tommy John surgery in July. Hurt will likely miss the 2025 season.

Hurt, 26, was placed on the injured list on April 20 with right shoulder inflammation after making three relief appearances this season. Hurt made the Dodgers’ 2024 Opening Day roster in the bullpen and was sharp in his first three appearances, allowing just one earned run across 6.2 innings of work for a 1.35 ERA.

Emmet Sheehan

Emmet Sheehan isn’t expected to return to the mound for the Dodgers until midseason. Sheehan underwent Tommy John surgery in mid-May and didn’t pitch for the Dodgers in 2024. He’s hoping to begin a rehab assignment in late May or early June, he revealed at DodgerFest.

Brudar Graterol

Brusdar Graterol had surgery in November to repair the torn labrum in his throwing shoulder. He is expected to return at some point in the second half of the 2025 season.

Graterol dealt with shoulder inflammation and a right hamstring strain throughout the regular season, which limited him to only seven games. But, the Dodgers ultimately included the 26-year-old on the World Series roster. The ‘Bazooka’ made three appearances in the Fall Classic against the New York Yankees. Across 2.1 innings, Graterol allowed just one hit and one run.
