Another Mike Vrabel connection will be following him to Foxborough.
The New England Patriots have agreed to terms with New York Giants assistant Zak Kuhr, according to Joseph Pasteris, MassLive’s Karen Guregian and the New York Post’s Ryan Dunleavy.
Kuhr, who reportedly interviewed earlier Thursday, spent this past season as a defensive assistant in East Rutherford under Brian Daboll. Prior to then, he made his initial NFL stop with the Tennessee Titans, beginning as a quality control coach in 2020 before working as the assistant linebackers coach from 2021 through 2023.
But the ties to the 16th head coach in Patriots history date back to Ohio State, where Kuhr interned from 2011 to 2012. While there, he helped oversee running backs and special teams as Vrabel oversaw linebackers and defensive linemen for the Buckeyes.
Kuhr, a Jacksonville native, earned his bachelor’s degree in sports management at Florida in 2013 and spent the subsequent fall as a graduate assistant at Old Dominion. Two seasons at James Madison and one season at Rutgers followed, with roles spanning from running backs coach to co-offensive coordinator. Then arrived two seasons at Texas State, where he was promoted to assistant head coach, offensive coordinator and running backs coach before moving on to the Texas Longhorns’ staff in 2019.
Vrabel’s recent ex-Titans hires also include running backs coach Tony Dews, defensive coordinator Terrell Williams and game management assistant John Streicher.
