Red Sox Predicted To Sign Alex Bregman Following Astros’ Blockbuster With $60M Slugger Read more at:

The Boston Red Sox hope to end their three-year slump of missing the postseason by bolstering their roster this offseason. The Red Sox have done an excellent job at boosting the rotation by trading for left-handed pitcher Garrett Crochet. However, landing some offense, such as former Houston Astros superstar Alex Bregman, would be ideal.

Fortunately for Boston, the Astros’ latest addition could pave the way for Bregman to join the Red Sox in their quest to win a 10th World Series title in 2025. “Agent Scott Boras told reporters all the way back in November during the annual general managers’ meetings that Bregman would be willing to shift to second base in the right situation, and the Red Sox be that situation,” Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter wrote Friday after ranking Boston as the second top landing spot for Bregman.

Following the Astros reportedly agreed to a blockbuster deal of former Arizona Diamondbacks three-time Gold Glove first baseman Christian Walker on Friday for three years and $60 million, the probability of Bregman re-signing with Houston has shrunk. “The presence of top prospects Marcelo Mayer and Kristian Campbell makes it less than a slam-dunk fit, as signing Bregman would mean blocking them from a potential path to playing time, but they could in turn be dangled as trade chips to acquire more pitching help,” Reuter wrote.

Signing Bregman will require Red Sox owner John Henry to open his checkbook for nearly $182 million over a seven-year deal, according to MLB Trade Rumors’ free-agent contract predictions.

Adding the two-time World Series champion to the lineup would help the Red Sox replace Tyler O’Neill’s absence after he signed a three-year deal with the AL East-rival Baltimore Orioles.

Hopefully for the Red Sox, they can acquire Bregman without eventually forfeiting their second and third top prospects, Mayer and Campbell. Regardless, Boston needs to make a splash and snagging the Silver Slugger would be an excellent move.
