Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr. retuned to practice in a limited capacity for the first time since suffering a hamstring injury in Week 1 against the New York Jets.
Mike Tomlin was initially optimistic that Porter would not miss a game due to the injury, but he ended up missing two games with a tight hamstring that could have turned into something much worse.
If Porter could not play, it would be cornerback Brandin Echols who would suit up instead. Echols had to play for Porter during the rest of the game after the team held Porter out as a precaution. During those snaps, Echols played outside cornerback.
Echols has an interception and a key fourth-down stop against the New England Patriots, marking him as key depth for the Steelers on their defense. Without Porter, Echols has filled in more than admirably.
Yet, the team would love to have their talented press-man cornerback in the fold, especially for a Vikings team that has a ton of wide receiver talent that can beat cornerbacks. One of the only ways they can actively be slowed down is with physicality, something Porter brings in spades.
