Former Colorado Buffaloes safety Shilo Sanders worked out with the San Francisco 49ers on Tuesday, hoping for a second chance.
Sanders, 24, went undrafted in the 2025 NFL draft, eventually signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a free agent. He was released during final roster cuts after he was ejected and later fined for throwing a punch in the final preseason game.

The 49ers, who have been dealing with multiple injuries along their defense, including losing star pass rusher Nick Bosa, hosted Sanders among a group of free agents as they look for depth pieces.
In his final season at Colorado under his father’s coaching, Sanders recorded 67 tackles, two passes defended, and two fumble recoveries, showing versatility as a physical defensive back.
According to reports released on Wednesday morning, it does not appear that the 49ers will sign Sanders, instead opting to go in another direction.
While it would have been a fitting destination if the 49ers had signed Sanders, as his father Deion spent the 1994 season with San Francisco, winning the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award and a Super Bowl.
