Nacho Alvarez with 2 HRs, Braves grab 7 game win streak, win 6-5

The Braves rode homers by Nacho Alvarez and Drake Baldwin, a start from Joey Wentz, and late inning bullpen work from Dylan Dodd and Raisel Iglesias to a victory today over the Detroit Tigers 6-5.

Let’s look at some of those highlights. Nacho Alvarez got the scoring started with a wall scraper to left in the top of the third inning.

Nacho was having no part of the silent treatment here, grabbing Marcell Ozuna in the dugout. He was not done with the home runs either. But in the meantime, Drake Baldwin helped the Braves grab the lead later in the third inning with a home run smash of his own.

Joey Wentz performed well in this game, throwing five innings of 7 K, 2 BB baseball. The Braves would let the lead get away on home runs by Zach McKinstry and Spencer Torkelson. That’s pretty good for a guy with a fake name. This was Nacho Alvarez’s day though, and he hit his second home run of the day and his career in the eighth. This brought the score to 5-4.

It stayed that way until the top of the ninth, when Will Vest gave up back-to-back singles to Ha-Seong Kim and Ozzie Albies. He would rally to strike out Michael Harris and Sandy Leon, but Nacho would not be denied.

Jurickson Profar followed with the game-winning single.

Raisel Iglesias finished the ninth in pretty short order, throwing 10 strikes in 12 pitches to Jace Jung, Kerry Carpenter, and Gleyber Torres to end the game. The Braves have won seven straight now. Who would have thunk it?

The Braves wrap up the series tomorrow at 1:40pm EST. That’s Spencer Strider versus Casey Mize on the bump.
