The Dallas Cowboys’ defense has struggled to generate stops this season, but is now expecting multiple key pieces to return in the early part of the 2025 regular season.
NFL Insider Dan Graziano provided an exclusive look into the Cowboys’ earlier this week and stated that Dallas expects rookie cornerback Shavon Revel Jr. to return to the field in Week 5, with the belief that he will quickly play a large role in the team’s secondary.
Dallas selected Revel in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft, though he has yet to take any game snaps as he recovers from a torn ACL that he suffered during his final season in college.
Graziano later added that linebacker Demarvion Overshown is expected to return at some point in October or November.
These eventual returns come as the Cowboys have struggled to stop opposing offenses during the first two weeks of the season.
Dallas opened the year by allowing the Philadelphia Eagles to string together four straight scoring drives in Week 1, though a weather delay seemingly helped both defenses as both offensive units stalled out to end the matchup.
This matchup was followed up by the Cowboys allowing the New York Giants to score 37 points in an overtime victory despite New York being expected to have one of the most lackluster offenses in the league.
Currently, the Cowboys are allowing the third-most yards per game of any team in the NFL by allowing opposing teams to gain 404 yards per game, along with the team ranking 30th in passing defense by allowing 283 passing yards per game.
Additionally, the Cowboys’ run defense has seemingly improved compared to last season, yet the team still ranks just 23rd in the league while allowing 121 rushing yards per game.
Luckily, the team has already taken multiple steps to improve the passing defense. The Cowboys recently signed defensive end Jadeveon Clowney to a one-year contract, as previously reported by The Dallas Express, to help generate pressure on opposing quarterbacks.
Dallas is also expecting cornerback DaRon Bland to return to the field in the coming weeks, though no official timeline for his return has been provided at this time.
