Had the New York Yankees traded Anthony Volpe and a few other of their youngsters over the past few years, there would’ve been an argument that they could’ve gotten a massive return.

The Yankees decided to go a different direction, keeping Volpe on the roster. Some don’t believe that was the right decision, and at times, it might be tough to argue. At the end of the day, the Yankees have to do a better job of keeping the right youngsters around, despite that being much easier said than done.

Volpe, however, is the one now in the light.

Could Yankees offload Anthony Volpe?

Some believe that the Yankees have to move on from him sooner rather than later, but now, the return would be much worse than it would’ve been just a few years ago.

There’s also an argument to be made that Volpe has negative value around the league, despite being as young as he is and a Gold Glove Defender.

Jim Riley of Ball Cap Sports was the latest to suggest that the Yankees should move on from Volpe, naming the Detroit Tigers as a potential landing spot. The Tigers have been searching for a shortstop over the past few seasons, and while Volpe might be an upgrade, he isn’t exactly what they need at the position.

“It just seems he’s regressing with the bat, so a change of scenery might be what’s needed here,” Riley said in a BALLCAP Sports video on YouTube. “Despite all of that, I still think there are teams that would be very interested in Anthony Volpe. We just have to work out a trade in a way that addresses the Yankees’ needs this offseason.”

There’s a side of the story that they need to bring him back and allow him to get labrum surgery, hoping that it changes things. There’s also a side of the story that suggests moving on from him now is the better thing to do for both parties.
