SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) — The teen accused of shooting San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was in juvenile court on Monday. The teen is facing three charges including attempted murder. At the time of the shooting, the juvenile was 17 years old. He is now 18.

The attorney with the city’s District Attorney’s office is requesting for the court to grant a “707 transfer hearing” that would officially move this case from a juvenile court to an adult criminal court.

The Public Defender’s attorney said the teen is a product of childhood trauma, neglect and the foster care system. Saying that the now 18-year-old has graduated high school is a respectful student and is enrolled in college urging the judge to believe the teen has shown the ability to rehabilitate.

The District Attorney’s office pointed to the teens previous cases in San Joaquin County before the Pearsall shooting saying Pearsall “Should be dead,” and “It’s miraculous the bullet traveled the way it did,” asking the judge to keep in mind that the teen “came prepared” dressed in black and with a semi-automatic weapon and “premeditated” the robbery.

Before the lunch break, the DA’s team asked three witnesses, all SFPD officers to speak, including Sergeant Joelle Harrell who aided Pearsal after he was shot in the chest. Sargeant Harrell got emotional in court describing the moment she encountered a Pearsall bleeding telling him it was “not his time yet,” and he was “not going to die.”

In July during a press conference, Ricki Pearsall said he is willing to meet the teen who shot him.

“That’s something I would probably do moving forward,” said Pearsall. “When it gets to that point where I can sit down and talk to the kid. I want to first see if he’s open to it because, you know, that’s also important to me,” said Pearsall.

The teens family and Ricki Pearsall’s mom were present in court. This hearing is projected to last until Friday.
