Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes takes full responsibility for game-altering interception vs. Eagles | Sporting News United Kingdom

The Kansas City Chiefs slumped to their second loss of the season, losing 20-17 to the Philadelphia Eagles at Arrowhead Stadium, and there will be one play that makes Chiefs Kingdom wonder what if.

With the Chiefs down 13-10 in the fourth quarter, Patrick Mahomes was leading the offense down the field and into the redzone.

Facing a second-and-six from the Eagles’ six-yard line with a field goal at worse in his back pocket, Mahomes dropped back, and fired a pass to Travis Kelce, and the tight end couldn’t quite get a handle on it, and the ball bobbled up into the waiting arms of Andrew Mukuba for a costly interception and set the Eagles up on their own 41-yard line.

And from the next drive, the Eagles marched 44 yards in 11 plays for a touchdown to go up 20-10.

Yeah, Mahomes knows he should have done a little better.

“We got the defense that we wanted, I was just a tad too early,” Mahomes said. “Just trying to put it on his body low before that player got there. I think if I can put it more on his body and not so far out in front of him, then he can catch, take the hit, and get in the endzone. It was just unfortunate that the ball bounced up in the air and went right to them.”

Mahomes interception big turning point

Granted, other plays contributed to the loss, but the interception was back-breaking.

It took at least three points off the board, along with the Chiefs potentially going ahead in the game, and it also gave the ball back to the Eagles, who then scored a touchdown on the following drive.

A double whammy if there ever was one.

And of course, it was just three points that separated the teams at the end, so who knows, without Patrick’s interception, maybe the game would have ended differently.

But that’s football, and against the Eagles, it didn’t bounce Kansas City’s way.
