The Kansas City Chiefs look to bounce back following a 21-27 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, and take down the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 2.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who completed 24-of-39 passes for 258 yards and a touchdown, along with six carries for 57 yards and a rushing score against the Chargers, is looking to bring “extra juice” against the Eagles.

The Super Bowl LIX rematch marks Kansas City’s 2025 home opener on Sunday, September 14. “I think it’s just different in the sense of, ‘You’re playing the best of the best,’” Mahomes told reporters on Wednesday.

“So, how are you going to respond? How are you going to be even better and take your game to another level? And so, I always think it’s fun, playing the best and getting to see where you’re at. In a game like this, I think if you’re playing your first game at Arrowhead against the reigning Super Bowl champions, there’s got to be some extra juice.”

For Chiefs fans attending the game in person, however, one thing will be noticeably different. Longtime Chiefs public announcer Dale Carter, who’s called games for nearly two decades, will not be working the game.

Carter announced his abrupt resignation just three days before the home opener with a message that immediately turned heads.

Dale Carter Quit After Being Asked To Make An Adjustment That ‘Crosses My Red Line’

Dale Carter, who also hosts the eponymous 94.1 KFKF radio show, announced his departure on Facebook. He posted on September 11:

Today I feel like an enormous weight has been lifted from me. I have informed the Kansas City Chiefs that I am resigning, effective immediately, as Stadium PA Voice of the Chiefs.

I have had an incredible 16+ year run that included 6 AFC Championship games at Arrowhead… a record 5 in a row! I truly enjoyed being the ‘Audio Propagandist’ for the team I love… doing everything I could do (within the rules) to give our guys an advantage!!

So, why leave? Over the last few years, the team has made changes to what I do. Going into the playoffs last year they asked me to make a significant change to how I’ve called the games (which I tried to do, even though I disagreed with it). Going into this season they wanted a further adjustment that crosses my red line. Frankly, it just hasn’t been as fun as it was. It takes a lot of time away from my family, especially around the holidays. This just feels like the right time.

Carter, inducted into the Country Radio Hall of Fame, noted that he still has “tremendous respect for the organization.” In addition to continuing his radio show and podcast, he plans to run for the Jackson County Legislature

Chiefs Fans Strongly Reacted to Dale Carter’s Exit

Over 1,000 fans reacted to Carter’s Facebook post and over 200 people left comments. The No. 1 question being what adjustment request crossed Carter’ red line. Others wished him the best of luck in his future endeavors.

One fan wrote, “Wow. I’m slightly stunned; but I totally understand. I’m happy you’re going to have some ‘breathing room.’ Well deserved. One man commented, “Thanks for your service to our community Dale!! I for one enjoy your show.” One woman asked, “Gotta know what that red line was Dale. Spill.”

Carter becomes the second beloved employee to make a surprise departure. Back in June, Dan Meers, better known as KC Wolf, the team’s original mascot, announced his retirement after 35 years.
