The final words conservative activist Charlie Kirk shared with Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker have been revealed by the Super Bowl winner on X in the aftermath of Wednesday’s tragic shooting at Utah Valley University (UVU).
Quoting from Philippians 3:14, Paul the Apostle’s letter to the Christian church in the Greek city of Philippi, Kirk wrote in the text message: ‘I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.’
Butker, the recipient of the message and an outspoken Catholic, responded: ‘On the mission.’
The kicker added a prayer emoji and the words: ‘Thank you.’
Kirk was murdered with a single gunshot while speaking to thousands at an outdoor event at UVU. The shooter remains at large.
Earlier, Butker posted a message thanking Kirk for ‘your strong witness for Christ.’

‘Thank you for pursuing truth and leading your family as a husband and father,’ Butker continued. ‘Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May their soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.’
Both Kirk and Butker are prominent figures among young conservatives. And like the podcaster and student organizer, the former Georgia Tech star has cultivated a relationship with President Donald Trump.
Butker was recently named to the President’s newly reformed national sports council, along with other conservative athletes such as golfer Bryson DeChambeau and New York Giants legend Lawrence Taylor.
The 30-year-old Butker became a divisive figure last year when he discussed gender roles during a commencement address at small Catholic college in Kansas. Since then, he’s been embraced on the right and recently formed a political action committee encouraging Christians to vote for what he describes as ‘traditional values.’

Kirk often referenced the controversy to attack the arrest record of NFL players.
‘…Harrison Butker is the real villain of pro football because he encouraged women to become wives and moms,’ Kirk wrote in May of 2024. ‘Apparently, he would have been better off punching one of them in the face or getting two or three of them pregnant. Plenty of his fellow players do that without headline news coverage.’
Kirk explained his support for Butker in a post a day earlier.
‘Harrison Butker went to a Catholic college and delivered a speech to Catholic graduates affirming Catholic doctrine,’ Kirk wrote on X. ‘He was literally moved to tears when describing how much his wife means to him. He called out and attacked the lies that millions of young women have been told, lies which leave many of them lonely and miserable rather than fulfilled and happy.
‘Professional sports is full of criminals, domestic abusers, and men with a half-dozen children they don’t raise. For the press to smear a brave, devout family man as an antisemitic, sexist pig is disgusting. I stand with Harrison Butker.’
