Red Sox insider hints at possible debut for one of two AAA flamethrowers to take Payton Tolle’s start against Athletics

Red Sox insider hints at possible debut for one of two AAA flamethrowers to take Payton Tolle’s start against Athletics originally appeared on The Sporting News

The Boston Red Sox have one of the best pitching staffs in the MLB right now, and having Payton Tolle rock his debut a week ago was proof that it can only get better.

However, Tolle needs special care, as he takes more rest than usually needed, and he got rocked in his last start. Luckily, it seems help isn’t too far away, as Worcester Red Sox insider Tommy Cassell reports both flamethrowers Kyle Harrison and Connelly Early might get the nod to come join the big leagues and take Tolle’s start against the Athletics.

“Following up from the WooSox’ doubleheader Sunday: With Connelly Early being scratched from his start and Kyle Harrison going 1 inning, both lefty pitchers are in line to help the Boston Red Sox if the club decides they need to pull from Triple-A Worcester for help this week,” Cassell revealed.

Another Sox insider, Chris Cotillo of MassLive, also mentioned a possibility of a bullpen game and/or Payton Tolle coming out of the bullpen.

“The Red Sox could also go with a bullpen game, like they did Wednesday against Cleveland, if certain arms are rested…’Probably, he doesn’t start on Wednesday,’ Cora said, ‘but he could be part of it. There’s a lot of things going on right now, so we just have to wait and see,’” Cotillo wrote.

Any of these options, save a bullpen game, would be good for the Sox. Trying to see if one of their two flamethrowers will be MLB ready next season is always nice, and seeing Tolle out of the bullpen would be good too, at least for the rest of this season and the postseason.
