Kansas City Chiefs Receiver Turmoil Has Fans Fantasizing About Unrealistic Tyreek Hill Return

Friday night in Brazil didn’t go the way the Kansas City Chiefs and their fans had hoped. Losing only the second season-opening game of Patrick Mahomes’ career was painful enough, but losing Xavier Worthy might have been even more painful.

It feels like the football gods are just mocking the Chiefs at this point when it comes to wide receivers. Worthy, primed to be the top receiver in the absence of Rashee Rice, was promptly hurt just three plays into the game. We don’t yet know the severity of the injury, but it doesn’t seem good. Personally, my first thought was that it could have been the same injury that cost Hollywood Brown most of last season. How ironic.

Obviously, there is a lot of hope that Worthy isn’t seriously injured and that he’ll be back in the next couple of weeks. But what if he’s not? Then what do the Chiefs do? Do they hold out until Rice comes back in Week 7? That could be a very painful six weeks, even if the Chiefs manage to win most of their games.

Or Brett Veach could do something absolutely crazy—and that’s trade (back) for Tyreek Hill. It has been three years, and three Super Bowl appearances, since Kansas City made the shocking decision to move on from their Hall of Fame wide receiver. Hill went to Miami, and K.C. got two more rings. It was a win-win for at least one side.

Look, Hill has made it no secret that he isn’t happy in Miami. In fact, after last season ended he said that he “wanted out.” And now he wasn’t even voted as team captain. Nobody really expects Miami to be very good anyway. So why not cut their losses and send Tyreek back to K.C.?

I’m not a trade expert, so I’m not going to pretend to speculate on potential trade details. I do think the biggest obstacle would be the money. Tyreek currently has a $27 million cap hit, and the Chiefs only have about $11 million in cap space. But I am sure more difficult deals have been made.

Having Tyreek back would be absolutely insane. And if, in some wild universe, Hill, Worthy, Rice, and Hollywood Brown are playing at the same time—pinch me, I really am dreaming.
