Red Sox rising star Roman Anthony reveal personal opinion on the severity of his strained oblique injury

Red Sox rising star Roman Anthony reveal personal opinion on the severity of his strained oblique injury originally appeared on The Sporting News

The Boston Red Sox received a blow today when it was announced Roman Anthony would be put on the IL after straining his oblique against the Cleveland Guardians yesterday. Now, Anthony has revealed his own perspective on his injury.

According to Christopher Smith, Anthony believes that it’s a grade two oblique sprain, and he doesn’t want to put a timetable on his return, but hopes to come back ASAP. A grade two oblique strain is a moderate injury, as it involves partial tearing of the oblique muscles.

There is a timetable out there though, as put out by Sox manager Alex Cora. Cora believes it will be four to six weeks before Anthony’s return.

If the Sox make it to a good spot in the playoffs, they may rush Anthony’s return. They would have him back by the four weeks, and just have him play at 60% of his full power, just like they did with Alex Bregman when he came back from injury.

The Sox can probably hold the line for at least another week, using Rob Refsnyder and Masataka Yoshida to fill his spot. Hopefully the Sox’ other great right fielder, Wilyer Abreu, comes back from injury soon as well too. If they have him, they’ll be just fine. Without either of them, it could spell trouble for Boston.
