Braves News: Bullpen shake-up, bats cold in Philly, and more

The Atlanta Braves completed yet another bullpen shuffle ahead of Friday’s contest in Philadelphia. Right-handers John Brebbia and Nathan Wiles joined Atlanta, while fellow righty Wander Suero and southpaw Austin Cox were demoted to Triple-A Gwinnett.

Suero and Cox both appeared in Thursday’s game, so the Braves now turn to the guys who have been working in Triple-A.

This likely isn’t the last of the roster moves, though, since Chris Sale is expected to be reinstated from the injured list on Saturday.

More Braves News:

Despite recording 12 hits, the Braves’ offense was quiet at the wrong moments, making Friday’s matchup with the Philadelphia Phillies a 2-1 loss.

Ian Mejia was brilliant once again for the Columbus Clingstones. More in the minor league recap.

🔥 STATEMENT!! Martín Pérez has officially decided to leave Atlanta Braves after being designated for assignment (DFA), choosing to enter free agency rather than accept an outright assignment to the minor leagues. This move reflects a strategic decision by Pérez to maintain control over his career trajectory and seek a team that can offer him a clearer role at the Major League level. From a broader perspective, this situation highlights the volatility of veteran pitchers in MLB roster construction, where performance, roster flexibility, and long-term planning often outweigh experience alone. For the Braves, the decision to DFA Pérez likely stems from a need to optimize pitching depth and open space for emerging arms or returning injured players. For Pérez, free agency represents both risk and opportunity—while he loses immediate roster security, he gains the chance to negotiate with teams that may offer a more stable rotation role or a better competitive fit.
