Braves add John Brebbia, Nathan Wiles to bullpen

The Atlanta Braves have replenished their bullpen after getting trashed by the Philadelphia Phillies last night. Heading off the 26-man roster are Austin Cox and Wander Suero, who both pitched last night.

Coming up from Triple-A is Nathan Wiles, who pitched in one game with Atlanta back in April and John Brebbia, who tossed 6.2 innings across give games for Atlanta last season and spent time with the Detroit Tigers earlier this season before being cut-loose and re-joining Atlanta. Both have been pitching with the Stripers prior to their elevation to the big league roster.

With Chris Sale expected to be activated from the 60-day IL to start tomorrow’s game, another roster move will have to happen. With Cal Quantrill struggling in his two starts with Atlanta, it is easy to speculate that his roster spot may be the corresponding move if Sale is activated.

Cox pitched three innings last night and threw almost 70 pitches Suero, who has been effective as Gwinnett’s closer, has struggled in his limited big league opportunities this season – including last night.

Rosters expand from 26 to 28 players on September 1, so the Braves will be able to add another pitcher to their roster in a several days.
