Packers’ Mastermind Duo Matt LaFleur and Brian Gutekunst Blindsided by Insider’s Cataclysmic Firing Bombshell Fans Rage Over the Ruthless Twist of Fate

Back in June, then-incoming Green Bay Packers president Ed Policy said that he doesn’t plan to extend the contracts of head coach Matt LaFleur and general manager Brian Gutekunst.

At the same time, he said that he is “generally opposed” to having the head coach and the general manager working for the team with just a year left in their current contracts. Both LaFleur and Gutekunst have two more years remaining on their pacts with Green Bay.

Are LaFleur and Gutenkunst on the Green Bay Packers’ hot seat in 2025?

That subject was touched on anew recently, when Packers insider and The Athletic reporter Matt Schneidman guested on an episode of the Pat McAfee Show.

Asked if LaFleur and Gutekunst are on a prove-it scenario in the 2025 NFL season as it relates to their chances to get extension contracts, Schneidman said that he initially felt confident that the pair would get newer deals down the road. After all, Policy is familiar with LaFleur and Gutekunst, even though he wasn’t the team president when both got hired.

However, Schneidman also admitted, retrospectively, that he “might have been wrong in my [his] initial read,” and that he could see the Packers parting ways with LaFleur and Gutekunst in the event that Green Bay fails to make the playoffs in the coming season.

“Look, if the Packers don’t make the playoffs this year, which I don’t think happens, but it’s a possibility, I could certainly see Matt LaFleur and Brian Gutekunst, and I don’t think this is hyperbole, both getting fired after this year.”

Green Bay has joined the postseason fray in each of the last two seasons, but neither trip resulted in an appearance past the NFC Divisional Round.

Still, hopes are high on the Packers to make a big splash in 2025, with Jordan Love at the helm of the offense and a reliable defense that is in its second year under Jeff Hafley’s watch.
