They were thrown out like trash 🥺
The other day, a Tulsa, Oklahoma, resident was driving down the road when they suddenly spotted some dogs running down the street. The driver couldn’t believe their eyes as more and more scared pups seemed to appear out of nowhere.
They realized that there were not 10, not 11, but 12 dogs on the loose and in danger of getting run over. The person who discovered the terrified babies called Puppy Haven Rescue for help.
“They were … terrified of cars,” Breanne Luiskutty, president of Puppy Haven Rescue, told The Dodo.
Luiskutty noticed that every single one of the dogs was male. That, combined with the sheer number of dogs abandoned together, began to raise some red flags for her.
“Because these are small-breed dogs with poodle mixed in, they are likely from a breeder,” Luiskutty said.
Unfortunately, Puppy Haven Rescue sees animals abandoned by backyard breeders all the time. Once the dogs no longer serve a purpose for the breeders, they’re discarded.
The dogs were all dirty, hungry and disoriented. Puppy Haven Rescue took in 10 of the 12 abandoned pups and distributed them to foster homes.
“The dogs were very scared the first night they went home,” Luiskutty said.
But many of the dogs are already beginning to decompress and come out of their shells. They’re enjoying cuddling together and even venturing outside. For the first time in forever, they finally feel safe.
“Your heart breaks for what they’ve endured, but it also comes with a sense of relief that they no longer have to suffer,” Luiskutty said.
Over the next few weeks, the dogs will get groomed, vaccinated and neutered. Once they’re fully recovered, they’ll be available for adoption.
“We are hoping they find people who protect and choose them for the rest of their lives,” Luiskutty said. “We know for certain they are all worth it.”
